We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.


 

The Opportunity

The Supervisor, Program Performance - Optimization is responsible for all aspects of the design and delivery of Save on Energy’s Business Community programs, including contract management and business relationships with applicable energy consumers, stakeholders, industry partners, and third-party delivery agents.

The Supervisor, Program Performance is responsible for the design, delivery and evolution of Save on Energy’s Business Community programs to address the needs of the Ontario power system and electricity consumers. To do so, the Supervisor, Program Performance will be responsible for the achievement of program energy and demand savings targets within established budgets and is responsible for activities including business development, program design, procurement, program delivery and administration, technical support, and external support including for consumers, stakeholders, industry partners, and third-party delivery agents. The Supervisor Program Performance will manage and develop a team of direct reports in support of the above objectives.

What You'll be Doing

The Supervisor, Program Performance - Optimization  will be responsible for:

  1. Team Leadership: Managing a specialized team of up to 6 represented staff, including developing, coaching, mentoring and continually improving team results; Demonstrating by example the values and culture of the IESO
  2. Strategic Thinking: Providing advice to senior leadership on IESO’s Save on Energy Business Prescriptive/Business Custom/Residential/Community programs, including opportunities for new and/or enhanced programs
  3. Accountability: Achieving program targets within established budgets for the IESO’s Save on Energy Business Prescriptive/Business Custom/Residential/Community programs by being responsible for the design, delivery, enhancement, business development, and support for these Business Prescriptive/Business Custom/Residential/Community programs; Working with appropriate teams to ensure the design objectives are reflected in marketing materials and that sufficient capability is built to support the achievement of objectives; Integrating market research and data analytics findings to enhance these CDM programs; Championing the culture of conservation internally (within the IESO) and externally (within Ontario) – this includes leading and/or supporting stakeholders sessions and IESO/partner working group meetings and managing expectations of stakeholders by keeping them informed of CDM issues/changes that may impact them
  4. Project Management: Managing processes, timelines, budgets, and staff to produce deliverables on schedule and within approved CDM budget, and ensuring adherence to IESO policies
  5. Problem Solving: Ensuring a risk-based focus is maintained to problem situations where conflict may arise
  6. Customer Focus: Managing relationships with consumers, stakeholders and industry partners to promote and enhance participation in the IESO’s Save on Energy Business Prescriptive/Business Custom/Residential/Community programs; Ensuring a customer focus in the design, administration, and delivery of these programs, leveraging market and customer feedback and working with relevant IESO teams and sector associations as applicable; Dealing with escalated customer and other counterparty inquiries
  7. Relationships: Developing and maintaining strong relationships with applicable electricity consumers, stakeholders, industry partners, and third-party delivery agents to ensure ratepayer value and to advance the culture of conservation in Ontario
  8. Coordination: Developing and maintaining strong internal relationships with peers and senior leaders across the IESO to ensure cost-effective and sustainable system reliability by fostering CDM in Ontario and further leveraging it as a resource to meet system and customer needs; Leading and/or overseeing staff who lead cross-functional teams for the same purpose
  9. Expert Advice: Providing advice to senior leadership on IESO’s Save on Energy Business Prescriptive/Business Custom/Residential/Community programs, including opportunities for new and/or enhanced programs Representing the IESO on internal and external cross-functional teams including relevant sector associations and government task forces to ensure positive outcomes for the IESO and Ontario; Ensuring adherence to IESO policies and procedures
  10. Communication: Ensuring internal and external communications (written and verbal) are of high quality (e.g. appropriate and accurate technical details, clarity and delivery); Supporting discussions with IESO senior leaders; Drafting reports and presenting to senior leaders, Board of Directors, and government officials, as applicable

Other duties as required.

What You Need to Succeed

Education:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in energy, business, environmental studies or a technical discipline is preferred; a post graduate degree is an asset.  Individuals without post-secondary education but with the prerequisite experience will be considered
  • Professional Engineer, MBA, Master level engineering degree and other industry certifications such as CMVP or CEM, an asset

 Experience:

  • Knowledge of the North American electricity sector, with strong emphasis on Ontario’s electricity sector and energy conservation
  • Demonstrating awareness and knowledge of political factors that can affect and influence the direction of conservation initiatives
  • Excellent project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines as well as demonstrated experience building project business cases
  • Dealing with customers (internal & external to the IESO) in a professional and service-focused environment.
  • Requires experience to effectively deal with complex inquiries, as well as escalated and sensitive situations.
  • Ability to anticipate issues and proactively manage problem and opportunities
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written and presentation) at all levels within and external to the organization, including the IESO executive leadership team, government and stakeholders
  • Experience in managing a high performance, specialized team and maintaining motivation and engagement over an extended period of time
  • Influence and negotiation skills; ability to persuade or influence others to adopt or accept a point of view or take a course of action
  • Exceptional tolerance for ambiguity and change

A period of over 10 years, and up to and including 12 years, is considered necessary to gain this experience

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario . When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga, Toronto, or Oakville location.
