The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.


 

The opportunity
The Supervisor, Project & Evidence Management plays a pivotal role in overseeing project coordination, evidence management, and resource acquisition for MACD. As part of the Governance, Performance and Strategy department, the Supervisor ensures that all investigations, cases, and activities are managed efficiently, adhering to legal, procedural, and organizational requirements. This role serves as MACD’s main quality control hub, enabling appropriate and nimble resource acquisition, hiring, project and case management, and evidence integrity services. The incumbent will have the opportunity to collaborate across departments—such as IT, Procurement, Information Governance and HR—supporting MACD's diverse needs while maintaining the integrity of evidence and information management. 

 

This position calls for a strategic thinker with strong project management skills, the ability to influence stakeholders, and a client service mindset. The ideal candidate is a resourceful problem-solver, capable of driving efficiency with a focus on working smarter, not harder. They will oversee a team of specialized staff and report to the Senior Manager, Business Planning, Strategy and Engagement. 

 

 

What you'll do

  • Provides management, supervisory and leadership role to team members and contractors who lead, analyze, organize, and support:
    • The provision of project management and coordination services across MACD’s business units.
    • The assurance that all investigations, cases, projects and activities within the portfolio are following those processes designed and required by MACD policies and/or its legal and statutory obligations, as well as project management disciplines.
    • The development, leading and ensuring of the completion of all MACD-required case and project planning and management documents, such as Project Briefs, Project Plans, Project Reports, Portfolio Activity Reports, Steering Committee Updates, Case Theories, Issue Articulation Frameworks, Risk and Resource Assessments and other documents, as required.
    • The facilitation and oversight of various aspects of MACD’s various resource acquisition and talent development activities.
    • The oversight of activities related to MACD’s procurement of contracting staff, external legal services, litigation experts, as well as activities associated with temporary and rotational staffing changes.  This includes proper use of all authorized procurement vehicles such as MACD’s Request For Statement of Qualifications framework, consisting of a wide range of pre-qualified subject matter experts, as well as more tailored Requests For Service and Requests For Proposal, and Legal Services procurement arrangements.
    • The assurance that all such activities align with direction from IESO Corporate Services, provincial government directives and any other applicable arrangements.
    • The oversight and administration of MACD’s unique funding arrangements, including its use of the IESO’s Adjustment Account as per IESO Corporate Services direction, and compliance with the Market Rule governing use of this account.
    • The oversight and execution of MACD’s budgeting, expense control and tracking activities, in addition to other division-specific accounting practices.
    • The management and administration of MACD’s talent development program, including MACD’s specialized orientation program, as well as its technical training and development curriculum.  Ensures that MACD managers and supervisors are following this curriculum as part of their development planning with staff.
    • Collaborative activities with other team members and other IESO personnel, especially IESO Corporate Services personnel in the areas of Finance and Human Resources, to effectively implement the division’s goals within the context of MACD’s and IESO’s broader strategic direction.
    • The oversight of the development and ongoing stewardship of MACD’s evidence and information management systems, ensuring efficient information sharing, access and protection.
    • The assurance of compliance with all legal requirements, including confidentiality obligations arising from market rules, MOUs, and other partnership agreements, as well as disclosure, privilege and discovery obligations stemming from rules of procedure at arbitration panels, OEB hearings and various provincial court proceedings.
    • The oversight of services related to the control and management of evidence supporting MACD’s enforcement matters which may lead to hearings, legal proceedings, mediations, arbitrations, tribunal proceedings and/or appeals at the Ontario Energy Board.  
    • The assurance of the provision of evidence and information support at those proceedings, if and when they do occur.
    • The implementation of procedures to safeguard the confidentiality of data from or about Market Participants.
    • The assurance of the customization, development and provision of various reporting and information provision services to MACD management, external law firms and other oversight bodies, such as IESO Internal Audit and Ontario’s Office of the Auditor General.
    • The liasing between MACD and the IESO’s IT department on technical matters related to the ongoing maintenance and support of MACD’s litigation support tools, systems and databases.
    • The maintenance of ongoing professional knowledge of electronic evidence systems, processes, tools and legal requirements.
  • In addition: 
    • Works collaboratively with other MACD members to effectively implement the goals of the team within the context of MACD’s broader strategic direction.
    • Works with Senior Manager Business Planning, Strategy and Engagement to set directional resource distribution according to divisional priorities.
    • Provides advice to Senior Manager Business Planning, Strategy and Engagement and Director of MACD on additional staffing assignments and/or contract procurement needs.

 

 

What you need to succeed


Required

  • Successful completion of a 4-year university degree in engineering, business, economics, commerce or a related discipline, or equivalent academic training
  • Excellent command of the English language in order to ensure effective communication
  • Experience identifying emerging business issues, opportunities, initiatives and risks
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, project organization, support, administration and implementation
  • Strong facilitation, presentation and written skills, including the ability to prepare and present accurate, concise and clear business information to staff, MACD and IESO senior management, IESO Board of Directors and its respective sub-committees and other stakeholders, as required
  • Proven track record of playing a leadership role in a dynamic team environment where opposing opinions and perspectives need to be managed, negotiated and resolved 
  • Strong background and demonstrated experience in the application of project management principles and best practices
  • A period of between 10-12 years is considered necessary to gain this experience

 

Assets

  • Experience in legal, regulatory or compliance settings 
  • Knowledge of and experience with North American electricity markets 
  • Previous experience leading and/or managing teams

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario.
