Who we are 

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.


 

The opportunity

The Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy will play an instrumental role in shaping the IESO’s long term direction during this exciting time of energy transition. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Strategy, this role works closely with the IESO’s Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team to develop and refine a multi-year strategic plan and will spearhead its implementation.   

 

In addition to strategy development, Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy will lead and coordinate sector research and environmental scans, identifying the most critical insights and ensuring that stakeholder feedback and market conditions inform strategic priorities.  

 

The Senior Manager will drive initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and engage with partners at all levels of the organization, influencing and motivating change to support the IESO’s strategic goals.  

 

 

What you'll do

  • Integrate corporate strategy priorities with other corporate functions such as business planning, portfolio management, enterprise risk management and strategic workforce planning  
  • Take an enterprise view across complex and ever evolving strategic priorities and environmental changes to identify opportunities to update and track corporate strategic priorities  
  • Lead and manage complex initiatives using project management methodology (e.g. project schedule, action log, risks and resources), monitors project activities for adherence to timelines, and outcomes 
  • Develop and sustain strong collaborative partnerships with external sector, internal business leaders and key stakeholders 
  • In partnership with Corporate Relations teams, develop and deliver creative communication and engagement forums to ensure the corporate strategy is aligned and engrained in the culture of IESO staff, as well as understood by key stakeholders/partners 
  • Lead, analyze, and present research data, including insights from multiple sources as inputs to the strategic planning process with the senior leadership team 

 

 

What you need to succeed

 

Required 

  • 4-year University degree in energy, public policy, business administration, environmental studies or a technical discipline 
  • Demonstrated relationship management, strategic thinking, strong ability to work collaboratively both inside and outside of an organization and excellent interpersonal and political acumen 
  • Leadership experience in creating high-performing teams, managing work and outcomes and financial acuity to manage team budget 
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, conceptual and forward-thinking skills, ability to deal with ambiguity   
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to research and condense information for different audiences 

 

Assets 

  • Graduate degree in a related discipline 
  • Understanding of the energy industry and Program delivery

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario. When working in the office, you will be located at our Toronto location.
