Who we are 

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.

We are currently looking for a Director, Talent Management to join our Human Resources team. Reporting to the Vice-President, you would be responsible for providing leadership, vision, and oversight to the design, development, implementation and administration of our talent practices including talent acquisition, onboarding, talent reviews and succession management, performance management, employee experience, culture, equity and inclusion, career pathing and learning and development. In this position you will work collaboratively with other divisions within Human Resources and with senior business leaders to align talent, culture, and capabilities to support both short and long-term organizational objectives and IESO’s strategy.

 

What you'll do  

 

  • Develop the overall Talent Management philosophy aligned with IESO’s values, vision, and business objectives and support the business, goals, culture and challenges
  • Systemically diagnose business and organizational issues, design and implement solutions that shape culture, build organization capability, and enable business results and meaningful culture change.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to develop programs and initiatives to improve practices, processes and programs to enable attracting and retaining a high-performing, agile, diverse and inclusive workforce.
  • Oversee the management of relationships with external vendors and service providers.
  • Provide counsel to the Executive Team, Leaders, and HR colleagues regarding talent solutions and issues.
  • Develop content and materials for Executive Leadership Team and Human Resources and Governance Committee of our Board of Directors.
  • Efficiently manage workflow and deadlines, perform short- and long-term planning, make policy and program recommendations, and recommend/initiate new approaches.

 

Talent Acquisition

  • Partner and communicate with HR leadership and key business stakeholders to create a strategy for talent acquisition and deliver exceptional services that align with the enterprise's talent philosophy, values, operating principles, and culture.
  • Enable the engagement and hiring of top talent for business-critical roles in a competitive market, as well as compliance requirements of related provincial legislation.
  • Ensure the 5 stages of talent acquisition – reputation, sourcing, recruitment, selection, and onboarding – are optimized to have the right talent in the right roles at the right time.

 

Learning & Leadership Development

  • Champion a portfolio of curricula and practices that advances the IESO’s capability in alignment with sector transformation.
  • Ensure techniques and approaches address a variety of learning styles and learning outcomes (business knowledge, technical skills, leadership competencies, power skills)
  • Oversee research and recommendations for systems and approaches to drive learning and development initiatives across the organization

 

Employee Experience & Culture

  • Develop and implement strategies and plans to enhance the culture and advance diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Support the execution of initiatives and programs that align to priorities and metrics and reflect IESO’s purpose and values.
  • Oversee the designs of talent strategies and programs, including performance management, diversity, equity and inclusion, organizational development, employee experience survey, that align with business objectives and support business success.
  • Oversee the administration of the intake, triage, investigation and resolution process for complex and diverse workplace issues and complaints relating to unprofessional conduct, harassment, discrimination, and other alleged misconduct violations under the Respectful Workplace Policy and other related corporate policies and legislation.

 

What you need to succeed

 

Strategic Leadership Experience

  • Strategic leadership experience with managing talent acquisition, selection and onboarding, talent assessment, performance management, engagement, career pathing and learning and development
  • Inclusive leader who fosters and creates a culture of diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and equity in the workplace
  • Significant change management experience in regulated, complex, public sector, multi-stakeholder, unionized environments.
  • Proven track record of strategic thinking and challenging the status quo, driving innovation while ensuring effective performance and risk management
  • Leadership skills balanced with readiness to play a hands-on role
  • Ability to think strategically and objectively, and experience developing and implementing large scale projects and change initiatives
  • Ability to use logic, creativity and innovation when developing solutions to problems, factoring any potential client impact

 

Relationship Management, Collaboration and Communication Skills

  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain, influence, listen, instruct, give clear feedback, and ask insightful questions
  • Proven ability to manage internal and external relationships as well as to collaborate effectively with HR partners
  • Innovative thinking and problem solver
  • Strong influencer and communicator at all levels of the organization up through and including the CEO, Executive Team members, and the Board of Directors

Qualifications

  • University or post graduate degree in, Behavioural Sciences, Human Resources or equivalent required. Master’s degree in industrial/organizational development or leadership development preferred.
  • Must have a successful track record of leading various talent management functions
  • 10+ years of talent management related experience with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role
  • Professional designation(s) is strongly preferred - e.g. Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), Certified Talent Management Practitioner (CTMP)

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario . When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga, Toronto, or Oakville location.
