Who we are 

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.


 

The opportunity

 

Lead a team to oversee as well as execute the Quality Assurance (QA) program at the IESO. Execute QA process and procedures as well as sponsor the solutions that are required to support QA activities. Provide advice and coaching to direct reports as well as individuals responsible for quality at the IESO.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Lead the implementation of Quality Assurance (QA) deliverables at the IESO. The Supervisor, Quality Assurance, is responsible for delivery of the QA program as well as for contributing towards continuous improvement to the QA program. The Supervisor – Quality Assurance is expected to:
    • Define strategies, standard approaches, methodology and techniques for testing
    • Remain current with market developments, recommend new test approaches and leading practices
    • Conduct test maturity assessments, make recommendations for enhancement, prepare roadmaps for process improvements, and manage the implementation
    • Define approach to be used when providing test estimates for projects
    • Define testing procedures and test artifacts for different testing models and lifecycles
    • Define common tools platforms and configurations to enable effective testing
    • Defines test metrics and reporting standards; implement analytics, dashboards and reporting mechanisms
    • Contribute to an innovation and continuous improvement program for QA
    • Conduct QA reviews for test projects, and work with test teams to improve performance
    • Enable adoption of standard QA processes by all IESO business units
  • Develop IESO staff competencies in the area of QA. The Supervisor – Quality Assurance will be responsible for enabling QA activities performed by I&TS and other IESO business units. Support will include:
    • Training and coaching test teams in standard testing practices and tools
    • Work with test teams to implement effective testing patterns for individual projects
    • Administrative support of the I&TS testing tools provided for use by the IESO
  • Supervise assigned staff.  Plan, organize, schedule and assign work with instructions, provide advice and direction, and be responsible for maintaining quality, accuracy, productivity, performance and skills development of staff.  Develop and implement work methods. Deal with routine personnel problems and initiate recommendations to supervisor on personnel matters.  The Supervisor – Quality Assurance will:
    • Establish objectives for the team and the individuals on the team
    • Manage the performance of the team and the individuals on the team
    • Work with direct reports to create development plans
    • Assign individuals from the team to specific projects
    • Identify resourcing challenges and propose solutions to address those challenges
    • Work with customers to address any QA concerns
    • Ensure that the health and safety need of employees are met
  • Promote Quality for the Enterprise. The Supervisor - Quality Assurance will be co-responsible for the adoption of quality assurance practices throughout the enterprise. This will be achieved by interacting with IESO management staff and test leaders outside of I&TS to influence the quality assurance decisions that are made throughout the enterprise. 
  • Perform other duties as required

 

What you need to succeed

 

Education:

  • Requires knowledge of Quality Assurance practices, to provide consulting and support services and to provide strategic planning related to quality assurance at the IESO.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a four year university education in the appropriate discipline or equivalent experience related to Quality Assurance.

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in testing project delivery or delivery of testing services.
  • A minimum of 3 year of experience of leading a QA team.
  • Demonstrated experience in test management including planning, script development & maintenance, and execution.
  • Demonstrated experience developing test plans, test strategies and automation strategies in multiple delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with internal management team and external clients using strong leadership and communication skills.
  • A period of over 10 years and up to and including 12 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

We currently support a flexible hybrid work model where applicable that supports a blend of remote and in-office work, based on business needs. Employees participating in the program typically work remotely an average of three days per week within Ontario. When working onsite, employees are based at our Mississauga, ON office location.
