The successful Supervisor, Project Management candidate will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of complex projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, timelines, and budgets. They will lead cross-functional teams, manage risks, and drive stakeholder engagement to achieve successful outcomes.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
Leadership
- Lead team to ensure the production, delivery and quality of key project management deliverables for portfolio projects.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently toward goals in a complex, diverse environment with multiple stakeholders and changing demands with minimal supervision.
- Challenges scope and requirements as necessary in order to ensure that the project steering committee and project sponsor is aware of resulting cost benefit outcomes, human resources implications and impact on project schedule.
- Demonstrates superior collaboration skills and techniques which lead to conflict resolution, creating lasting productive partnerships.
- Fosters and manages productive relationships with executive level sponsors.
- Builds effective teams with technical and non-technical staff.
- Liaise with other business departments: project sponsors, PMO, business analysts and project teams to ensure the successful delivery of portfolio projects.
- Conduct research into industry best practices for the purpose of identifying opportunities for improvements.
- Work collaboratively with Enterprise Project Delivery management to effectively implement the goals and objectives of the team within the Enterprise Project Delivery strategic direction.
- Work directly with the Senior Manager on the management and administration of the business department’s talent development activities including technical training and development.
- Establish and maintain a system to measure the effectiveness of project management processes, e.g. key performance indicators.
- Coordinate and influence more senior business unit representatives from multiple business units to achieve positive project outcomes.
- Regularly makes decisions and takes action on matters directly affecting the project management deliverables.
- Provide training or information sessions as required to IESO staff; and
- Ensure projects’ lessons learned are incorporated into future project management activities.
Supervision
- Plan, organize, schedule, direct and prioritize the work of direct reports and be accountable for the products and the quality, accuracy and quantity of work generated by the team
- Determine resource requirements, allocations, and assignments
- Provide coaching/mentoring, guidance, direct technical assistance and develop project management staff to ensure they are fully conversant with relevant processes, procedures, templates, guides and tools
- Make recommendations to Enterprise Project Delivery regarding short and long term staffing requirements to ensure that appropriate project management is provided for portfolio projects and other time sensitive priorities
- Conduct hiring activities including, but not limited to: job description development, recruiting, interviewing and hiring to meet project management objectives; and
- Review staff performance and provide recommendations on pay and personnel matters.
Customer Focus:
- Provide information, insights and recommendations to internal customers in a manner which leads to understanding, agreement and successful project outcomes.
- Coordinate, participate in or provide support as appropriate to IESO project teams.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with key internal stakeholders.
- Make presentations to IESO business units to advance the value proposition of the Change Delivery team.
- Ensure that appropriate stakeholders are represented in the decision-making process and that decisions made address the need or the opportunity at hand and are in the best interest of all stakeholders and
- Manage stakeholder understanding, engagement and active participation specific to project management deliverables.
- Perform other duties as required.
Role Requirements

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Requires knowledge encompassing the technical fields; relevant to the areas of computer science, engineering, technical service delivery, risk management, and customer service.
- Requires strong knowledge of project management; theory, principles, and practices including the Project Management Institute best practices.
- Requires knowledge of Business and IT business methods, procedures and organization structures in order to be aware of limitations that can be imposed and to recognize factors influencing the effective implementation of methodologies, risk and project management related activities.
- Requires excellent facilitation and communications (written and oral) skills to prepare accurate, concise, and clear correspondence, procedures, guidelines, and reports.
- This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired, either through the successful completion of 4 years of university education in an appropriate discipline or by having the equivalent education.
- PMP certification is required.
- Proven track record of leading projects /programs through all phase project Management life cycle.
- Solid knowledge and thorough understanding of PMI methodology, standards, phases, techniques and tools.
- Proven history of delivering projects using both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
- Proven ability to work in an ambiguous environment and collaborate across multiple areas in order to achieve a common business objective.
- Strong focus on business development projects that require a high degree of persuasive vision.
- Sets realistic and practical goals for the project and develops appropriate strategies for achieving these goals.
- Strong and tested project management skills stemming from both failed and successful project delivery.
- Demonstrated hands on experience leading and delivering large complex enterprise wide projects in a complex service delivery environment.
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle, infrastructure/network and IT and business operations.
- Experience leading the development and implementation of a broad coordinated set of plans and programs to meet the goals and priorities of the approved ranked/prioritized project.
- Requires proficiency in computer tools application skills in managing projects; such as MS Project, EXCEL, Access, Visio, SharePoint and Word.
- Requires proven track record of working in a team environment where different opinions and perspectives have to be managed, negotiated and resolved.
- Requires a proven track record of taking ownership and getting the assigned tasks/projects done.
- Specific expertise and experience are required in the areas of:
(1) business case development,
(2) Project Plan and Schedule development,
(3) RFP/RFQ/RFI preparations, negotiations, vendor contract management and administration,
(4) project monitoring and control, and
(5) Preparation of various reports throughout project management life cycle.
- Proven track record of meeting/exceeding customer expectations.
- Minimum 8 years of project management experience, with at least five years of experience conducting business analysis on multiple projects with increasing levels of complexity in a technical environment.
