Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. This is a unionized position that falls within the Smart Metering Division in the Information and Technology Business Unit.

The successful candidate will lead and continuously enhance SME’s data and analytics program by establishing standards, improving data management practices, and ensuring high‑quality, secure delivery of data services while building team capabilities. They will also supervise staff, champion data management adoption across the SME and broader IESO, and drive process improvements through training, stakeholder engagement, and strategic initiatives.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
- The Supervisor, SME Data and Analytics Support is responsible for delivery and continuous improvement of SME’s Data Products, Solutions and Platform. The Supervisor – SME Data and Analytics Support is expected to:
- Define strategies, standard approaches, methodology and techniques for managing, modelling and enabling use of data and analytics for the SME.
- Remain current with market developments, recommend new approaches and leading practices
- Through management, oversight, review, and training, ensures data and analytics services are completed in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner
- Ensures confidentiality and security of sensitive data and reports including personnel data, subscriber personal data, and financial data.
- Conduct maturity assessments, make recommendations for enhancement, prepare road maps for process improvements, and manage the implementation
- Define procedures and artifacts for different modelling and management needs
- Define common tools platforms and configurations to enable effective management of data
- Work with stakeholders to improve use and performance of data management processes and tools
- Enable adoption of the Data Catalogue by the SME
- Develop IESO staff competencies in the area of Data Management. The Supervisor – SME Data and Analytics Support will be responsible for enabling Data Management activities performed by SME and other IESO business units. Support will include:
- Training and coaching teams in standard data management practices and tools
- Work with test teams to implement effective data modelling patterns
- Administrative support of the Data Management tools provided for use by the IESO
- Supervision:
- Responsible for hiring, onboarding, supervising, coaching, short-term development planning and performance evaluation for staff with input from Senior Manager as required
- Promote Data Management for SME. The Supervisor – SME Data and Analytics Support will be responsible for the adoption of Data Management practices throughout the SME. This will be achieved by interacting with IESO management staff and test leaders outside of SME to influence the Data Management decisions that are made throughout the SME.
- Perform other duties as required
Right now/recently, this position is part of SME's Data & Analytics team responsible for the operation and maintainance of SME's Advance Data and Analtyics Platform.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
Education:
-
Requires knowledge of Data Management practices, to provide consulting and support services and to provide strategic planning related to Data Management at the IESO.
- This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a four year university education in the appropriate discipline or equivalent experience related to Data Management.
Experience:
-
A minimum of 8 years of experience in delivery of Data Services.

A minimum of 3 year of experience of leading a Data Services team.

Demonstrated experience in Data Management including planning, modelling, maintenance, and execution.

Demonstrated experience with Data Management and modelling technologies including Data Catalogue, Data Marts, Data Quality Engineering, Master Data Management, Database Administration, Business Intelligence (BI) tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI), Data Observability, Extract Transform and Load (ETL) development and maintenance, SQL and Python development languages.

Experience in participating in procurements, managing software contracts and licensing.

Experience in implementing and designing BI architecture, with market-leading database environments such as Oracle, mongoDB, Databricks or MS SQL Server, for analytical solutions, and manage the design of data models to support reporting, analysis, and development of AI/ML models.

Demonstrated ability to interact with internal management team and external clients using strong leadership and communication skills.
- A period of over 10 years and up to and including 12 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
Nice to have:
- An advanced degree in engineering, computer science or related disciplines
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing (preferable Microsoft Azure cloud), Databricks and expereience in developing AI/ML models.
