Who we are
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.
The Opportunity
The Supervisor, Cyber Threat Intelligence is responsible for overseeing, championing, and advancing information security cyber threat intelligence programs and ensuring that administrative and operating cyber threat intelligence functions, technologies, and partnerships are in place as required. The role will oversee and coordinate the development of standards and control procedures necessary for cyber threat intelligence and lead a team of cyber threat intelligence subject matter experts to provide an appropriate level of intelligence to the IESO’s information security team, leadership teams, and external customers.
What you'll do
Under the oversight and management of the Senior Manager, Cyber Intelligence, Operations and Governance, the Supervisor will:
- Lead a team to oversee, champion, and advance the Cyber Security Threat Intelligence program to gather data, analyze information, and produce intelligence to support the management of strategic and operational risk and the proactive defense against cyber security threats.
- Assess cyber security threats, report the results of assessments with conclusions, direction, and recommended actions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with Canadian federal, provincial, and municipal; energy sector; regulatory; international; and security partners to exchange information, threat intelligence, experiences, and best practices.
- Develop and maintain information security and cyber threat intelligence policies, standards and procedures consistent with IESO Policy/Standard on Information Security to ensure key corporate requirements and expectations are met. Ensure that these procedures are adequately defined and kept up-to-date.
- Supervise assigned staff. Plan, organize, schedule and assign work with instructions, provide advice and direction, and be responsible for maintaining quality, accuracy, productivity, performance and skills development of staff. Develop and implement work methods. Deal with routine personnel problems and initiate recommendations to supervisor on personnel matters.
- Manage vendor contracts and coordinate with suppliers to ensure the effective delivery of services in support of cyber threat intelligence functions.
- Coordinate with business and technical teams to address specific work programs and issues. Work with team members to create and sustain a cooperative and supportive team environment, demonstrating openness and trust to encourage a high level of personal responsibility and self-management. Plan and assign aspects of the teams’ deliverables and be accountable for ensuring quality work results. Provide guidance and direction pertaining to the work performed by those on the team.
- Keep abreast of the developments and methodologies in accepted and leading edge information security practices and professional corporate security standards.
- Obtain requisite federal clearance levels.
- Support Information Security and Cyber Security teams as required
- Perform other duties as required.
What you'll need to succeed
- 4-year bachelor's degree in information systems, political science, or related disciplines; or equivalent work experience
- Relevant certifications in the field of Information Security, Cyber Security, or Threat Intelligence
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and drive information security practices with a wide spectrum of IESO business managers
- The ability to interact with IESO personnel, build strong relationships at all levels and across all business units and organizations, and understand business imperatives
- Self-motivating, self-identification of problems and resolution with minimal supervision. Strong though leadership and delivery experience
- A strong understanding of the business impact of cyber security threats and controls
- Strong leadership abilities, with the capability to develop, manage, and guide information security team members
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior business unit leaders and directors within and external to IESO; in-depth knowledge and understanding of threat intelligence concepts and principles as a means of relating business needs to security threats; an excellent understanding of information security concepts, protocols, industry best practices and strategies
- Proficiency in performing risk, business impact, and threat assessments and in recommending
- Strong analytical skills to analyze security incidnets and threats and articulate their key points to various audience
A period of over 8 years, up to and including 10 years of experience is typically required to complete the accountabilities associated with the position, including experience in an information security or threat intelligence role and experience with operational, tactical, and strategic management.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario. When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga, Toronto, or Oakville location.
