This is a unionized position that falls within the Market Ops & Forecast Systems Department in the Information and Technology Services Business Unit

What makes this role exciting

The energy sector is rapidly evolving, offering exciting new opportunities for those who want to make a difference.

  • Provide life cycle management of information technology solutions to the core components of IESO business related to  operating the IESO Administered Markets, providing reliable operation of the electrical system (IESO controlled grid), and other corporate requirements.

What you’ll do

In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  • Develop and test integrated IT solutions for business and operations processes supporting grid reliability and market administration.
  • Conduct analysis of customer requirements and produce functional specifications.
  • Oversee the evolution and enhancement of systems related to market operations and reliability services.
  • Support and participate in projects that enhance existing systems or deliver new solutions by providing technical expertise, solution evaluation, and implementation support.
  • Create solution design alternatives that meet business and technical requirements, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and adherence to the full SDLC process.
  • Assess legacy monolithic applications and support their redesign toward cloud-native, containerized, or microservices-based architectures.
  • Support mission‑critical operational systems through an on-call rotation.
  • Support system operations and maintenance activities by following established IT service management practices, and apply familiarity with the ITIL framework (incident, problem, change, release processes).
  • Identify opportunities for improved system performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Provide support and mentor junior staff in modern engineering practices.

In a typical day, you will

  • Balance multiple priorities across project initiatives, system enhancements, and operational support activities, shifting effectively between planned work and unexpected production needs while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborate with business partners and technical teams to clarify requirements, validate assumptions, and support decision‑making throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Participate in analysis, design reviews, testing cycles, and status discussions to support ongoing initiatives.
  • Contribute to design and architecture discussions related to system evolution, reliability, and modernization.
  • Maintain awareness of system health, performance, and upcoming changes, escalating risks or impacts proactively.
  • Support on‑call responsibilities as required for mission‑critical systems, ensuring continuity of operations.
  • Share knowledge and guide junior staff to build team capability and strengthen technical practices.
  • Perform other duties as required.
