Who we are
Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come.
This is a unionized position that falls within the Smart Metering Division in the Information and Technology Business Unit.

- Provide leadership and technical specialist support for the design and life cycle management of information systems, with a specific emphasis on Meter Data Management solutions; manage projects to initiate technical direction and standards, user requirements, systems integration and design, software coding, researching and training; maintain client satisfaction and cooperative relations with technical staff; identify potential advantages to revising existing products/services; provide consulting support to clients and internal staff in search of solutions.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

Provide systems consulting support to customers and internal technical staff in order to maintain consistency.

Provide project management support, technical leadership and system expertise to projects and teams involved in the design and support of advanced information systems with a specific emphasis on Meter Data Management solutions.

Develop software to provide system functionality.

Manage the evolution of existing systems and tools by implementing enhancements to provide additional functionality, problem correction, reliability and maintainability improvements.

Respond to multi-dimensional system problems/failures and participate in the restoration of system functionality.

Perform system administration functions, prepare procedures and/or provide support to other staff involved in system administration and support activities.

Perform ongoing assessments of systems performance and its ability to meet current and future customer requirements.
In a typical day, you will

Research commercial products and tools which can be used in the design and/or support of information systems and tools.

Develop procedures required for the secure operation and management of information systems and tools. Perform ongoing audits to assess compliance or required improvements.

Participate in the development of strategic plans and standards.
- Perform other duties as required.
Role Requirements

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
Education:

Education: Requires an advanced knowledge of computer science subjects and disciplines in order to design, develop and support small to large scale computer systems and networks. Specific knowledge would include programming, system design, database modeling, networking, and system administration, Requires a knowledge of technical writing to prepare effective reports.

This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University education in an appropriate discipline or by having the equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Requires extensive experience in the design, development and support of computer systems. This experience will be gained through work in the following areas:

- Computer system architecture, design and integration;
- System networking;
- Administration and use of standard or proprietary computer operating systems;
- Development of computer applications using standard development languages;
- Support of small to large scale computer systems;
- Data base design and administration.
- Requires experience in Meter Data Management Systems, including solution functionality, architecture, configuration and underlying infrastructure;
- Requires experience with the LDC meter to bill business processes.
- An indepth understanding of EnergyIP administration, configuration and functionality will be an asset;
- A strong knowledge of Quality Assurance techniques and testing methodologies will be an asset.

- A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
