Who we are
Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in maintaining the reliability of the Ontario power grid now and in the future by driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come.
This is a unionized position that falls within the Legal Resources and Corporate Governance Business Unit.

The successful candidate will lead the development, oversight, and continuous improvement of the IESO’s compliance programs, ensuring alignment with NERC, NPCC, and market rule obligations while supporting both internal business units and market participants in meeting their reliability and compliance requirements.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
- Lead the development, submission and management of IESO compliance documentation for NERC, NPCC and MACD, ensuring clear narratives and evidence that demonstrate compliance with reliability standards and market rules, and controls that describe how compliance and reliability risks are mitigated.
- Strengthen and maintain the IESO’s Internal Compliance Program by updating documentation, assessing risks, testing internal controls, and supporting business units in preparing self-reports and evaluating potential non-compliance events.
- Act as the IESO’s primary liaison with compliance enforcement authorities, coordinating submissions, responding to information requests, and managing alerts and reporting obligations.
- Represent the IESO in standards development processes and industry forums, coordinating Ontario’s positions on standards under development, engaging with stakeholders, chairing committees, and keeping market participants informed of compliance obligations and developments.
- Provide leadership, collaboration and guidance across the organization, mentoring staff, delivering compliance training, supporting key initiatives, and contributing to the oversight and continuous improvement of the IESO’s Internal Compliance Program.
Role Requirements

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Strong understanding of Ontario’s electricity sector and the roles of the IESO, MACD, NERC and NPCC.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor complex information to different audiences.
- Proven analytical, problem‑solving, reasoning and critical‑thinking abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build consensus and work effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Excellent time‑management and project‑management skills, able to juggle competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability and comfort working in evolving or ambiguous situations.
- 8–10 years of progressive experience in the electricity or other industries, with exposure to electricity markets, power system operations, industry-specific rules, standards and regulatory requirements, to which compliance must be maintained..
- Experience administering internal compliance programs and using governance, risk and compliance (GRC) tools to manage obligations, assess risks, document controls, track mitigation actions, and report on compliance performance.
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, collaboration, research, analysis, investigations, report writing, presenting, planning, organizing, and project management.
- Background in process design and improvement, facilitation, and supporting compliance‑related or regulatory initiatives.
- The education required to complete the responsibilities associated with the position is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of a four-year university program in one of the following programs: business, finance, management, engineering, computer science, economics, law or other equivalent education.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and readiness to learn new tools, including AI‑based and GRC systems.
