Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. This role involves managing project design and implementation, coordinating cross-functional teams and external stakeholders, ensuring projects meet scope, timeline, and budget objectives, and supporting the development of new participation models to enhance grid reliability and efficiency.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
Project Management
- Acts as a project manager to deliver strategic insights and execute complex project tasks related to the Enabling Resources Program.
- Demonstrates leadership and influencing skills to accomplish project objectives in a matrix reporting environment.
- Enforces change management discipline on project scope, time and cost changes.
- Manages the ERP budget to avoid deviations and recommends corrective actions.
- Negotiates and secures approval of necessary project resources.
- Manages project interdependencies within the program and ensures efficient utilization of project resources.
- Plans, acquires and engages external services through the IESO procurement process to resource and support program delivery.
- Works with the contract managers and procurement in the development of RFPs, evaluation of vendor submissions, and the establishment of contracts to ensure on-time project delivery. Ensures vendor resources are managed to the statement of work and project objectives.
- Ensures effective and efficient project handover to responsible areas adhering to the appropriate processes and artefacts.
- Monitors and ensures effective and efficient use of the IESO control mechanisms such that major project decisions, such as solution design and scope changes, are approved by project sponsors and senior management.
- Works in compliance with all IESO Project Management methodologies, standards and processes.
- Tracks project metrics and create project dashboards for senior management.
- Ensures accurate and timely project level reporting, including scope, time, budget and risk.
- Promotes a project management best practice culture at all levels, ensuring a communication plan is developed and executed considering all project stakeholders and their needs.
- Engages with IESO’s QA function to ensure that an effective QA (Quality Assurance) plan is in place for all projects and is being executed properly.
- Keeps current with latest trends in project management and maintains knowledge of current best practices in project management.
- Performs other duties (special assignments) as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Financial Management
- Ensures the project is meeting its stated objectives within the approved budget and timelines.
- Delivers and manages demanding but viable project budgets and schedules including forecasting, monitoring and adherence to corporate business policies.
- Estimates costs to complete deliverables, activities and phases of the project.
Resource Management
- Moderate levels of limited supervision over others including allocation of work project staff.
- Plans, assign and monitor project work with appropriate instructions and technical directions while assuming primary responsibility for achieving overall project objectives.
- Creates a forum and format for open communications across project teams/stakeholders

Manage stakeholder engagement and communication throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring client needs are met and senior leadership, Board members, and external partners are actively involved in planning, risk management, and delivery.
Decision Making
Make timely decisions to advance project objectives, support sponsors in identifying opportunities for action, and delegate tasks effectively to ensure successful delivery.
Influencing and Leading
Operate effectively in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment, fostering strong executive relationships, building high-performing teams, and resolving conflicts to create lasting partnerships with external stakeholders, software vendors, and numerous IESO areas such as Enterprise Change, IT, M&R, Settlements and MACD to name a few.
Challenge requirements and influence decisions when needed, ensuring awareness of cost-benefit outcomes, resource implications, and schedule impacts while driving collaboration and project success
Education:
- Requires knowledge encompassing the technical fields; relevant to the areas of computer science, engineering, technical service delivery, risk management, and customer service.
- Requires strong knowledge of project management; theory, principles, and practices including the Project Management Institute best practices.
- Requires knowledge of Business and IT business methods, procedures and organization structures in order to be aware of limitations that can be imposed and to recognize factors influencing the effective implementation of methodologies, risk and project management related activities.
- Requires excellent facilitation and communications (written and oral) skills to prepare accurate, concise, and clear correspondence, procedures, guidelines, and reports.
- This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired, either through the successful completion of 4 years of university education in an appropriate discipline or by having the equivalent education.
- PMP certification is required.
Experience:
- Lead complex, enterprise-wide projects through all phases of the project management lifecycle, applying PMI standards and best practices.
- Deliver projects using Waterfall and Agile/SCRUM methodologies, setting realistic goals and strategies to achieve business objectives.
- Develop and gain approval for business cases, define scope and success factors, and manage risks, issues, and contingency plans.
- Collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders, including senior executives and the Board, to ensure alignment and effective decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement in project management tools and methodologies, leveraging expertise in software development, infrastructure, and IT operations..
- Specific expertise and experience are required in the areas of (1) business case development, (2) Project Plan and Schedule development, (3) RFP/RFQ/RFI preparations, negotiations, vendor contract management and administration, (4) project monitoring and control, and (5) Preparation of various reports throughout project management life cycle.
- Proven track record of meeting/exceeding customer expectations.
