The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced professional to be the Senior Manager of Quality Assurance. You will lead a team to develop, execute and continuously improve the Quality Assurance (QA) program at the IESO. This includes establishing a strategy, policies, processes and procedures as well as sponsor the solutions that are required to support quality assurance activities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions to ensure customer satisfaction.
What you'll do
- Establish and lead the QA Program at the IESO. Be responsible for the delivery of the QA program as well as for continuous improvement to the QA program.
- Develop IESO staff competencies in the area of quality assurance. Be responsible for enabling quality assurance activities performed by I&TS and other IESO business units.
- Manage and direct assigned staff. Plan, organize, schedule and assign work with instructions, provide advice and direction, and be responsible for maintaining quality, accuracy, productivity, performance and skills development of staff. Develop and implement work methods.
- Promote a culture of quality assurance for the Enterprise. Be responsible for the adoption of quality assurance practices throughout the enterprise. This will be achieved by interacting with IESO management staff and test leaders outside of I&TS to influence the quality assurance decisions that are made throughout the enterprise.
- Perform other duties as assigned
What you will need to succeed
Requires knowledge of Quality Assurance and Project Management practices, to provide consulting and support services and to provide strategic planning related to quality assurance at the IESO.
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a four-year university education in the appropriate discipline or equivalent experience related to Quality Assurance and Project Management. Examples include International Software Testing Qualifications Board or equivalent. Project Management Professional certification is recommended
A minimum of 8 years of experience in testing project delivery or delivery of testing services.
A minimum of 5 years of experience of leading multiple QA team’s in an organizational matrix structure.
Demonstrated experience in test management including planning, script development & maintenance, and execution.
Demonstrated experience developing test plans, test strategies and automation strategies in multiple delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to interact with internal management team and external clients using strong leadership and communication skills.
Developed leadership, collaboration, influence, persuasion and negotiation skills along with experience in influencing individuals including those at the senior to executive management levels to achieve desired behaviors and outcomes
Strong judgment, business acumen, strategic planning and execution abilities
Strong understanding of Software Delivery Lifecycle, Project Management Lifecycle, delivery methodologies, and QA best practices.
Understanding of electricity market design and power system operation is preferred
A period of over 10 years and up to and including 12 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario . When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga, Toronto, or Oakville location.
