What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
- Operate a computerized access control and monitoring system, including closed circuit TV surveillance system and bollard-type vehicle access control system covering all IESO locations.
- Respond to and investigate all alarms and breaches of security and take appropriate authorized action.
- Conduct foot patrols of building, grounds, perimeters, and environs, to enforce trespassing regulations, and to check for, damage and safety hazards to both employees and the public.
In a typical day, you will
- Monitor and control pedestrian and vehicular access to the site. Process visitors to the IESO and notify their IESO sponsor of their arrival.
- Respond to fire, medical, bomb threat or other emergencies by acting as response coordinator. Assist with evacuation or searches, provide first aid if safe to do so, and secure affected areas. Assist the police and fire departments as necessary.
- Process and issue photo-ID access cards for all authorized personnel for the purpose of controlling access to IESO premises.
- Set up access control areas for employee access to IESO controlled assets, including site, building, areas and rooms.
- Perform other duties as required.
Role Requirements
Our team consists of experts from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their unique perspectives and skills.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Requires experience in the security function to become familiar with security acts and regulations, governing procedures and policies, routines and other security guard responsibilities relating to the enforcement of trespassing regulations, control of vehicular and pedestrian access and performance of initial and follow-up investigations of incidents breaching security regulations.
- Requires full training to meet Security Guard Training Program requirements prescribed by the Ontario Government.
- Requires a good understanding of the various site policies and procedures that would have an impact on maintaining a secured environment.
- Requires on-the-job experience to become familiar with processes and procedures relating to security clearance requests, photo access cards, staff access to company controlled assets.
- Requires experience to become familiar with the operation of a computerized security system, including closed circuit TV surveillance system to monitor a multiple site security system.
- Requires further on-the-job experience to establish and maintain a procedure for personnel security clearance assessments, to participate in and support the IESO Business Continuity Plan for Facilities, and to establish and maintain a process and procedure for the test program covering security devices, equipment, etc.
- Requires experience to understand functions and responsibilities associated with the protection and safeguard of IESO properties to provide orientation and guidance to staff and others and to prepare security guidelines for the site.
- Requires experience in computerized information system for the production of various security related information, reports, and to prepare and maintain security related database.
- A period of over two years, up to and including three years, is considered necessary to gain this experience.
