- This role is a part of the Information & Technology Services business unit within IT Infrastructure. The Inventory Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the IESO’s IT assets and consumables are properly tracked, maintained, and supported. By safeguarding the availability and integrity of the hardware and infrastructure that our employees rely on every day, this role helps enable the IESO to deliver on its core mandate of operating the provincial electricity grid reliably, securely, and efficiently.

Maintain accurate inventory of all IESO fixed assets and IT consumable items such as PC's, servers, mobile devices, SW licenses, spare-parts, test equipment, all IT and non IT supplies, etc. Monitor and analyze ongoing consumption rate of IT consumables, spare-parts for equipment and ensure timely procurement of all supplies. As directed by the IESO buyer, interface with vendors and suppliers for the procurement of IESO System components (both hardware and software), spare-parts, and for the servicing/replacement of failed systems (monitors, test equipment, PCs, servers, printers, wireless devices, etc.) both under and outside warranty.

Maintain original software packages in the software library and ensure that only authorized number of original software copies are assigned to the end users. Prepare the necessary paperwork for declaration of surplus. Be knowledgeable of inventory/asset management software, computer systems, PC tools and databases and associated procedures to make inputs and corrections and to understand and act on outputs. Participate and provide assistance in development of inventory management standards and process to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Asset Management.

Coordinate and/or conducting specialized inventory audits for the sites, as required. Track and manage all home loan items. Prepare and process Customs paperwork for shipping equipment to the USA. Process all paperwork required for procuring and repairing equipment and spare-parts. Maintain a current set of catalogues, vendor literature, manuals and drawings. Prepare and issue periodic reports to management on the status of inventory of all material. Monitor IESO ticketing queues and configure, install, troubleshoot, repair and move servers and network devices in corporate server rooms as required. Produce the necessary evidence of data removal and systems disposal, in support of various audits.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

Maintain accurate inventory of all IESO (Independent Electricity System Operator) fixed assets and IT consumable items such as PC’s, servers, mobile devices, SW licenses, spare-parts, test equipment, all IT and non IT supplies, etc. Receive all new assets (both hardware and software), reconcile with the Purchase Order, initiate the payments of invoices where required, incorporate the received assets on the Inventory System and arrange to issue/deliver to the end users. Maintain warranty information on equipment.

Monitor and analyze ongoing consumption rate of IT consumables, spare-parts for equipment and ensure timely procurement of all supplies.

As directed by the IESO buyer, interface with vendors and suppliers for the procurement of IESO System components (both hardware and software), spare-parts, and for the servicing/replacement of failed systems (monitors, test equipment, PC’s, servers, printers, wireless devices, etc.) both under and outside warranty. Arrange to receive or ship PCs and modules for IESO systems from/to vendors and suppliers. Ensure that the inventory is accurately maintained and up-to-date in terms of count, description, procurement date, purchase price, warranty/maintenance expiry date and other related information.

Prepare the necessary paperwork for declaration of surplus as required. Arrange for the delivery and pick-up of surplus items from each IESO site. Initiate appropriate documentation for approval to remove items from IESO sites.

Be knowledgeable of inventory/asset management software, computer systems, PC tools and databases and associated procedures to make inputs and corrections and to understand and act on outputs. Use computer inquiry tools to interrogate these systems/databases and formulate output reports for audit, statistical and asset management purposes.

Participate and provide assistance in development of inventory management standards and process to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Asset Management.

Coordinate and/or conduct specialized inventory audits for the sites, as required. Ensure timeliness and compliance with corporate and departmental requirements. Keep supervisor informed of irregularities and progress.

Track and manage all home loan items. Liaise with security for all items that leave the site. Fill out all asset removal paper work for each item which moves from the Clarkson location, and keep track of the items until returned.

Prepare and process Customs paperwork for shipping equipment out of Canada and receive the item when returned from the vendor or supplier.

Process all paperwork required for procuring and repairing equipment and spare-parts, e.g. order placement and invoice payments. Maintain an established inventory and spare-parts level, replenishing by procuring as required.
In a typical day, you will
- Responsible for procurement, configuration, maintenance and inventory of IESO mobile cellular devices and accessories.
- Monitor IESO ticketing queues and act on requests for cellular travel packages, plan changes etc
- Provide cellular billing data to finance department for processing.
- Prepare monthly printer meter reading report and provide the report to the vendor for billing purposes.
- Monitor IESO ticketing queues and configure, install, troubleshoot, repair and move servers and network devices in corporate server rooms as required. This will require scheduled and ad hoc travel to corporate sites depending on the severity of the request.
- Configure new laptop and desktop computer BIOS prior to deployment.
- Be sufficiently knowledgeable of laptop and desktop imaging and remote management tools.
- Prepare and issue ad hoc and periodic reports to management on the status of inventory of all material.
- Ensure removal of IESO data from desktops, laptops, servers, network equipment, cell phones and printers being prepared for return, redeployment or disposal according to audit requirements and guidelines.
- Produce the necessary evidence of data removal and systems disposal, in support of various audits.
- Provide technical and operational support for Telemetry systems and infrastructure, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and system monitoring.
- Coordinate with Market Participants, vendors and internal teams to resolve issues pertaining to Telemetry assets.
- Perform other duties as required.

Education:
- Associate Degree in Information Technology.

College diploma program in Computer Technology course.
Experience:
- Over 2 years up to and including 3 years of experience required.
- Requires knowledge of inventory/asset management business practices and procedures to monitor and manage IESO’s inventory of fixed assets and software licenses.
- Requires Technical experience to repair or build IT related equipment.
