Who we are

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come.

This is a non-unionized position that falls within the Org Design and Client Relations Division in the Human Resources Business Unit. You will collaborate with HR teams to align health, safety, and disability-related programs with organizational priorities, ensuring compliance and fostering a culture of well-being that supports the IESO’s mission of delivering reliable and sustainable energy.

What makes this role exciting

The energy sector is rapidly evolving, offering exciting new opportunities for those who want to make a difference.

Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity where you will develop, implement, and monitor health and safety programs that create a safe and inclusive workplace? In this role, you’ll help shape a healthier work environment by ensuring compliance with legislation, reducing risk and supporting employees through effective disability management, accommodation, and return-to-work programs.

What you’ll do

In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  • Provide specialized technical support for health and safety programs, including hazard identification, ergonomics, emergency management, and training
  • Lead disability-related programs by coordinating sick leave and short-term disability claims, workplace accommodations, and return-to-work plans
  • Develop, monitor and implement health and safety policies and procedures that embed strategic priorities like psychological health and safety and continuous improvement
  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits to ensure compliance and recommend corrective actions
  • Support Joint Health & Safety Committees and advise stakeholders on legislative requirements and best practices

In a typical day, you will:

  • Advise and influence leaders and HR partners on health and safety programs and complex return-to-work/accommodation cases, ensuring compliance and proactive solutions
  • Manage third-party disability service providers and WSIB claims to facilitate timely accommodation decisions and effective case resolution
  • Analyze health and safety and disability data to identify trends, prepare reports, and recommend process improvements to leadership
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and risk assessments to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with Joint Health & Safety Committees to monitor workplace trends, resolve issues, and implement best practices under the Occupational Health and Safety Act

This position was part of a strategic initiative to implement key elements of a health and safety management system, such as hazard identification and implement proactive control measures to reduce the risk of workplace injury and illness, including rollout of a comprehensive psychological health and safety program.
