Who we are
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.
The opportunity
The Continuous Improvement Analyst is a Lean Six Sigma subject-matter expert primarily responsible for assisting in the design, delivery, and support of Continuous Improvement opportunities for IESO management and staff. Support is provided for but not limited to, the areas of value-stream improvement, robotic-process automation (RPA), procurement, supplier management and evaluation, audit tracking, risk assessment, Lean Six Sigma knowledge management and other initiatives that may be assigned, with specific emphasis on value-stream improvements.
The Continuous Improvement Analyst helps guide the IESO’s Lean Centre of Excellence in identifying Continuous Improvement opportunities that will be facilitated by the Lean Centre of Excellence. The Continuous Improvement Analyst is also an expert in the design and testing of robotic-process automation (RPA) workflow, improvements to business processes (new and existing), assist in designing solutions to resolve audit findings as assigned, and supports knowledge management facilitations for IESO Business Units in the area of Lean and Six Sigma. This also involves tracking improvement initiatives once implemented to ensure adequate controls are in place to deliver expected measurable quality levels.
What you’ll do
- Assist/contribute to the design, implementation and operation of the Lean Centre of Excellence including, but not limited to:
- Providing input and analysis into existing processes and functions to determine potential value-stream improvements
- Assisting in the measurement of Business Unit performance to discover opportunities for value-stream improvement
- Analyzing both Lean Centre of Excellence and non-Lean Centre of Excellence facilitated value-stream improvements to reduce costs, increase productivity or deliver greater value
- Support the improvement of organizational processes with the aim of making them as efficient as possible
- Assist with the development of strategies for the IESO to follow that will produce opportunities to reduce costs, increase productivity or deliver greater value
- Effectively manage the development and deployment of robotic-process automation (RPA) workflows for value-stream improvement initiatives facilitated by the Lean Centre of Excellence
- Provides thought-leadership, guidance, training and coaching to colleagues and other staff around areas of Lean Six Sigma and value-stream improvement
- Provide thought-leadership and guidance for IESO staff to standardize best quality and business practices for wide-scale adoption.
- Maintain current knowledge of professional standards, Continuous Improvement methodologies and approaches
- Interface with others – internally with the Legal, Planning, Corporate Services, and other IESO Departments;
- Conduct research on topics and issues related to Lean Six Sigma and robtic-process automation (RPA)
- Prepare and assist in the development of Lean Centre of Excellence Continuous Improvement initiative schedules.
- Demonstrate leadership and mentor, advise, and guide less experienced staff both within CIO Office but also from across the IESO in Lean Six Sigma and robotic process automation (i.e. co-op students, etc.)
What you need to succeed
Education:
- Requires a thorough knowledge of current corporate and I&TS business administration subjects, continuous quality improvement leadership practices, and application and knowledge of current I&TS systems strategies and planning.
- Requires strong oral communication skills and exceptional written communication skills for facilitation, negotiation, and presentations that deal with the business of I&TS at all levels. Including other business units, project teams, executive leadership and external parties as may be required in assisting with supplier or continuous improvement issues.
- Responsible for helping identify and assisting with the implementing of continuous quality improvement projects, and the delivery of training necessary to educate staff in quality improvement practices, tools, and methodology.
- This knowledge is normally acquired either through the successful completion of a 4-year University education in Commerce, Information Management Studies, Information Science, or a related field of study. Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma at a level consistent with the Green Belt level is strongly recommended.
Experience:
- The Continuous Improvement Analyst is a subject matter experts in the duties, processes, and procedures that they perform and acts in the CIO Office.
The experience required to perform at this level includes theoretical knowledge and practical application and administration of common industry standards and practices that relate to business administration and quality management - such as Lean Six Sigma Methodology that pertains to continuous quality improvement. - Requires some knowledge in procedures and methods pertinent to the fields of Business Administration and Quality Management. Possesses a thorough understanding and can provide expert advice and guidance to others regarding robotic-process automation (RPA) workflows and their interaction with Business Administration services including but not limited to, Management of I&TS Suppliers, Audit tracking, Risk Mitigation, and IESO Procurement policy and process.
- Requires knowledge and practical experience in continuous quality improvement with a track record of success in improvement initiatives.
- Requires experience in the application of basic statistical techniques to conduct studies to provide and analyze resource data on the effectiveness of existing methods and procedures.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario. When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga, ON location.
