  • As a Analyst in Smart Metering Operations, you will contribute directly to the effective operation of the Meter Data Management and Repository (MDM/R), a critical component in supporting Ontario’s evolving electricity system. This position supports data-driven decision-making, customer and stakeholder engagement, and maintaining operational excellence through robust service management and vendor oversight. Your work will help ensure that the Smart Metering Entity operates within defined service levels, contributing to the IESO’s commitment to transparency, innovation, and reliability in a rapidly transforming energy landscape.

  • Assist in, participate in and contribute to providing operational and customer-facing support and services to the Smart Metering Entity (SME) and for the Meter Data Management and Repository (MDM/R), ensuring that the SME and the MDM/R operate within service and operating level agreements, managing service requests, incidents, problems, changes, releases, system outages and business continuity events, and monitoring vendors.

 

What you’ll do


In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  • Assist in providing operational and front line support and services to ensure the effective operations of the Meter Data Management and Repository (MDM/R) within the parameters of the MDM/R Terms of Service and the Service level Agreement defined with the Operational Service Provider.  

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of standards and methodologies for the operation of the MDM/R, ensuring processes, procedures and controls are followed for MDM/R operations processes to meet governance and audit requirements.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of process activities and functions in the respective area of responsibility, such as:

    • Incident Management

    • Problem Management

    • Change Management

    • Release Management

    • Registration and Enrolment Management

    • Project Management

    • Business Continuity Management

    • Access Management

    • MDM/R Service Recipient Regression Testing

    • Service Level Monitoring and Reporting

  • Conduct and support the execution of processes, procedures and controls within defined operating agreements, service levels, and requirements.
  • Provide first level support in the response, diagnosis and resolution of service requests, incidents and problems.
  • Assist in preparing management reports, including status, progress, performance, issues and risks.
  • Maintain and assist in the development of process, procedure, technical and supporting documentation.  
  • Assist in the diagnosis and resolution of problems and conflicts with customers, vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in monitoring the Operational Service Provider and other vendors, ensuring service recipient requests are responded to and addressed, and that the MDM/R and vendors operate within service level and operating level agreements.
  • Assist in developing and delivering training on assigned processes and activities.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for improving operations processes, conducting studies, assessing and presenting results, and providing recommendations to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the implementation of changes to the MDM/R with the Operational Service Provider, other vendors, MDM/R service recipients and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in and support the organization, coordination, control and execution of multi-functional projects/initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders and service providers.

In a typical day, you will

  • Assist in preparing and communicating management reports, including status, progress, performance, issues and risks.
  • Assist in performing audits/tests of internal operating procedures to confirm compliance with control objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, implement and administer operations supporting tools.
  • Assist in analysis of issues, determining root causes and conducting post implementation review assessments.
  • Participate in executing test plans for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Perform other duties as required.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need: 

 

Education:

  • Requires knowledge of computer science, computer systems engineering, software engineering, IT management or a related discipline, including associated business administration knowledge to implement policies and procedures to understand the processes, procedures and standards applicable to the effective management of information systems.  Requires knowledge of IT service management processes and practices.  
  • Requires good written and oral communication skills in order to prepare effective reports, process, procedures and technical documentation and to deal effectively with internal and external contacts involved in accomplishing work objectives.
  • This knowledge would normally be acquired, through the successful completion of 4 years of University education in an appropriate discipline or by having the equivalent experience.

 

Experience:

  • Requires experience to become familiar with the nature of IT service management practices, methodologies and tools as well as software to deliver, execute and report related operations activities and processes and manage projects.
  • Requires experience to become familiar with the nature of IT operations activities and processes, software development life cycle and project management life cycle.
  • Requires exposure to the MDM/R, MDM/R technical architecture including applications, databases, operations, and functionality to provide advice and diagnose and resolve problems as well familiarity with as meter to bill processes.  
  • Requires familiarity of the MDM/R design objectives, requirements, functions and interdependencies.
  • Requires experience in providing advice to others including good customer service skills.  
  • A period of 4 to 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
