We are powered by teamwork, supported by diverse and passionate colleagues who foster respect, celebrate successes, and thrive on shared achievements. At the IESO, it’s not just what we do—it’s who we are!

Who we are

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come.

This is a unionized position that falls within the Corporate Communications Division of the Corporate Relations Engagement and Strategy Business Unit.

What makes this role exciting

The energy sector is rapidly evolving, offering exciting new opportunities for those who want to make a difference.

In this role, you will develop and coordinate marketing activities for Save on Energy, the IESO’s suite of demand-side management programs, while contributing to broader IESO brand awareness and marketing objectives where aligned. You’ll oversee vendor management and operations to implement marketing strategies and supervise a team of four marketing professionals working to promote the benefits of energy efficiency and electrification to Ontarians.

What you’ll do

In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  1. Leading the development of Save on Energy brand and program marketing campaigns to drive participation in Save on Energy programs, while supporting integrated marketing initiatives that strengthen awareness of the IESO and its mandate.
  2. Managing the Save on Energy brand, ensuring its consistent application and enhancing understanding of the IESO’s role and values in promoting conservation, while upholding and supporting the broader IESO brand. Anticipate and plan for the evolution of the brand to support future opportunities including demand-side management and energy-efficiency.
  3. Maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholder groups and assessing industry trends to recommend ways to improve marketing effectiveness.
  4. Overseeing marketing vendors by ensuring effective vendor relationships, developing and managing statements of work, and delivering campaigns on time and on budget.
  5. Ensuring vendors and internal teams are appropriately briefed and supported to create compelling marketing creative, and identifying opportunities to leverage shared marketing approaches, channels and assets across Save on Energy and the IESO.
  6. Coordinating with other departments to align Save on Energy marketing activities with broader corporate communications and marketing priorities, where appropriate.
  7. Overseeing the Save on Energy website and social media channels, while supporting digital and social media initiatives that advance broader IESO marketing objectives.
  8. Implementing budget management, tracking and reporting for marketing activities, while applying best practices and supporting transparency regarding marketing effectiveness.
  9. Supervising staff by planning and coordinating work, assigning responsibilities, and providing guidance, training, coaching, and mentorship; monitor performance and work quality; communicate progress and resource needs to the Senior Manager; support staffing decisions and employee development to ensure the quality and accuracy of marketing and advertising materials.

In a typical day, you may review marketing creative, brief our creative agency on upcoming campaigns, coordinate with program teams on new programs or program changes, and oversee the development of web and social media content. You may also work with corporate communications colleagues to identify opportunities for greater alignment across IESO marketing initiatives and channels, review quarterly marketing reports to develop recommendations for improvement, or meet with vendors and local distribution companies to discuss marketing effectiveness.

This position is an important contributor to the IESO’s Demand Side Management Framework, a 12-year commitment to provide ongoing opportunities for businesses and consumers to manage their electricity use while responding to the province’s evolving electricity system needs. The role also contributes to integrated marketing initiatives that strengthen awareness of the IESO and its mandate.
