Who we are

 

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come. 

This is a non-unionized position that falls within the Coporate Communications Division of the Corporate Relations, Engagement and Strategy Business Unit.

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, the Senior Manager of Web Strategy, Marketing and Brand is responsible for ensuring the IESO’s online presence and brand connects with its growing audience across Ontario. This role oversees two components of the IESO’s brand:

 

  1. The IESO’s corporate brand which focuses on the IESO’s role as Ontario’s electricity system operator and planner; and
  2. the Save on Energy brand which focuses on the delivery of energy efficiency programs to homes, businesses, and communities across the province.

 

What you’ll do

 

This role will oversee critical functions in support of the IESO’s efforts to drive and guide Ontario’s electricity sector and energy efficiency marketplace. Responsibilities for this role include leading and managing the following functional areas:

 

  1. Web Strategy: Ensure the IESO’s websites remain effective tools for users to find information about the many initiatives underway at the IESO. This includes ensuring web content is compliant with industry best practices and applicable laws/regulations.

 

  1. Social Media: Manage the IESO’s social media presence and strategy to help raise awareness and promote IESO initiatives as well as monitor social media for potential issues.

 

  1. Marketing: Develop and execute strategies to help inform and educate audiences about the important role the IESO’s plays in guiding Ontario’s electricity system and the range of energy efficiency programs the IESO offers through Save on Energy .

 

  1. Brand: Lead the management of the IESO’s corporate brand and Save on Energy brand.

 

  1. Graphic Design: Work with Business Units to develop graphic and design content to support IESO products. This could include infographics to support presentations and conference handouts, report layouts, social media posts, and other corporate initiatives.

 

The role includes the management of approximately 12 staff through direct and indirect reports and may perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Role Requirements

  • Strong strategic thinker and relationship builder, able to build trust with senior leaders across the company and influence decisions even when presenting a challenging or opposing point of view.
  • Exceptional ability to identify risks to IESO’s strategic objectives as well as IESO’s reputation. 
  • Strong political acuity and understanding of risks and opportunities as they relate to the general public, media, and government audiences.
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, conceptual and strategic thinking skills.
  • Capable of managing contracts with several communications, marketing and design agencies.
  • Provide supervision to staff, including full responsibility for hiring and advancement, staff development, training, performance reviews, salary matters, all aspects of performance management, including dismissal, administering work programs and ensuring staff output effectively meet business needs and goals; ensuring quality, quantity, timeliness of work production to achieve business objectives.
  • University degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in public relations, marketing or related fields.
