The successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate step within the salary grade/band, based on relevant years of experience and other applicable considerations.

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come. 


This is a unionized position that falls within the Corporate Communications Division in the Corporate Relations, Engagement and Strategy Business Unit.

The Marketing Advisor is accountable for developing and implementing comprehensive content marketing strategies, and tactics for Save on Energy and other demand side management programs and related sectors and delivery channels within a specified market segment (business and residential consumer). 

 


What you’ll do

 

In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

 

Leadership

 

  • Influence the culture of conservation internally and externally
  • Demonstrate by example the values of the IESO and the culture of the Demand Side Management group

 

Financial

 

  • Supports the marketing budgeting exercise and the regular financial updates 
  • Accountable for business line fees and charges across all sectors
  • Monitor financial performance and identify cost saving opportunities.
  • Responsible for cost-effective implementation of conservation marketing for programs, sectors and channels
  • Manage the advertising agency and other marketing suppliers in the development of marketing campaigns, including budget and project management. 

 

Technical

 

  • Leverage experience with retail, consumer, social behaviour change and B2B marketing experience to develop and communicate value propositions for participating in Save on Energy incentive programs
  • Develop and implement marketing communications plans to support programs launches and ongoing marketing management
  • Maintain and ensure compliance to the marketing brand standards, while developing and evolving consistent and integrated marketing value propositions for the key audiences, sectors and subsectors
  • Identify requirements and contribute to the maintenance and ongoing optimization of the Save on Energy website with content, graphics and functionality as required 
  • Collaborate closely with relevant business units to identify and refine key customer segments/channels and relevant messaging / positioning, evaluate market results and reactions to communication/advertising programs by communication channel, to ensure the timely adjustment of marketing communication strategies and plans within designated budgets.

 

Customer Focus

 

  • Manage projects and processes to improve customer and channel acceptance of province-wide programs
  • Manage targeted outreach to customer segments and collaborates with other Conservation divisions in developing and reporting results and marketing analytics
  • Prepares presentations for customer and mid-stream markets
  • Support the management of celebrations for customer successes
  • Ensures product/program marketing communication collateral, messages, and medium are consistent with IESO and Save on Energy brand standards and other related requirements
  • Other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned.

Education

 

Requires a knowledge of communications, public relations, marketing and digital media to design and implement marketing and communication plans, including the development of written communication, marketing and promotional content, to translate technical and/or specialized material and terminology into language that is appropriate for internal and external audiences, to source, select, organize, write, review and edit content for the web and to plan, design, develop, deploy and maintain external web site(s) and other digital channels.

 

This knowledge is normally acquired through the completion of four years university training in an appropriate field or by having the equivalent level.

 

Experience

 

Requires:

  • Experience gained in communications, public relations or marketing to acquire an understanding of effective marketing techniques, planning, methods and practices. 
  • Experience in gathering, researching and preparing content for target audiences. 
  • Ability to maintain an understanding of plans, activities and issues in key areas of the organization’s demand-side management efforts and their potential impact on the organization’s relationships with its external audiences.  
  • Familiarity with the organization, the interrelationships between departments, communication policies, strategies, and facility operational activities.
  • Experience in the planning, development and promotion of marketing and public relations plans to ensure appropriate judgment is exercised in the development and management of an overall content marketing approach.
  • Excellent writing, research and editing skills, with a fundamental understanding of writing for different content marketing channels.
  • Contract and vendor management experience for the delivery of multimedia marketing materials on time and on budget.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and strong program management skills.  Experience working in energy sector an asset.
  • A period of over six years and up to and including eight years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
