Who we are 

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.


 

The Opportunity

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) manages Ontario's electricity system. The Operations Advisor performs the duties of a project controller to ensure that changes to Ontario's transmission system can be reliably operated.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Facilitate the integration of market participants’ new and modified facilities into operations.
  • Work with external stakeholders to help them achieve their objectives, while holding them accountable to industry requirements and procedures.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure they have what they need to operate power system and associated market.
  • Act as a project controller to ensure that all tasks required to integrate changes are completed.
  • Execute continuous improvement activities where assigned, which includes coordinating collaboration across diverse teams.
  • Manage master data.

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Post-graduate diploma or degree at college or university level.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead projects with a wide diversity of objectives and participants, including specialized professionals and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with databases and the ability to write queries is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the IESO and the Ontario power system is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively within a group and must be able to effectively coordinate with IESO staff and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Project management and project scheduling experience with an emphasis on being a self-directed, highly motivated individual.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills are a must.
  • Must be analytical, systems-oriented, and driven to improve processes and take initiative to highlight opportunities.
  • Must be detail oriented and must be able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • These qualities are expected to be acquired over a period of at least 6-8 years.
