Who we are
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Payroll, this position works as a member of the Pay Services team and provides: Payroll administration and compliance with payroll legislation and organizational payroll policies
What you’ll do
- Ensure payroll transactions are completed in specific timelines and in accordance with Employment Standards Act, National Payroll Institute, Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada
- Provide guidance and assistance on the interpretation on two collective agreements for represented staff, entitlements relating to non-represented members, policies and procedures and past practices, time and attendance reporting and ad-hoc benefit matters as it relates to pay services
- Analyze payroll and employee related data and identify discrepancies and trace to originating sources for correction. Respond to queries on payroll compliance matters and initiate improvements to pay processes where required. Participate in internal & external audits as required
- Develop in-depth knowledge of four integrated systems used for pay/time reporting/benefits/pension and ensure pay system tools are updated to incorporate any legislative changes
- Payroll Administration – Prioritize, perform and coordinate ongoing full-cycle payroll activities. Initiate process improvements, review and provide input to process documents and presentations as required. Initiate and coordinate bulk pay processes with other business groups
- Participate in system upgrades, project management process, change management, time management, disaster recovery planning, payroll contingency management, system implementation and testing and on-going verification, review and analysis of documents. Provide business requirements and perform testing for payroll and time and attendance systems for system upgrades.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, human resources information system (SuccessFactors), payroll system (Ceridian Dayforce), time and attendance system (Kronos), pension provider online reporting system (LifeWorks), financial analysis software (Tableau).
- Ability to provide strong, effective and concise verbal and written communication to all staff levels and with third parties in a professional manner. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to write and review process documents, training materials/procedures, corporate notifications and present material as required.
What you need to succeed
Education
- A minimum college diploma in payroll administration and compliance. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation with the National Payroll Institute is preferred.
Experience
- Requires full-cycle payroll experience and a strong knowledge of government payroll legislation and compliance.
- Requires experience in the collection, interpretation, verification, analyzing, troubleshooting, reporting and processing of payroll information.
- Requires experience with payroll system, human resources information system and time keeping system and ability to understand the integration and cross functionality of applications, databases, spreadsheets, reports and templates.
- Thorough understanding of the internal pay processes, guidelines, policies and procedures, collective agreement provisions, pay schedules, allowances, deductions. Ability to quickly analyze, interpret and troubleshoot data and reports and provide upfront immediate assessment and solutions/recommendations.
- Requires experience in dealing with internal and external parties at all levels in a multitude of pay-related matters.
- Requires experience in full-cycle year-end processing (T4s, T4As, T2200s).
- Attention to detail around payroll calculations and basic accounting knowledge is required.
- The minimum level of experience for the incumbent to perform at a satisfactory level of proficiency is 4-6 years’ progressive payroll experience, experience in a unionized environment is an asset

The IESO offers a Hybrid Work Model Program. The Model allows for remote working up to three days per week, based on business needs. When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga location.
