Who we are

 
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has a unique vantage point in the Electricity sector as Ontario’s system operator.  We are at the heart of the electricity system, ensuring affordable electricity is available where and when Ontario needs it.   We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs.   We understand that in the decades to come we will see an unprecedented transformation of the system, and that the IESO must, and will, play a critical role in driving and guiding this energy transition. 

Given this significant role, the IESO is focused on driving business transformation to enable and support our talented workforce.  This includes evolving our processes, technologies and tools, identifying and building next-generation skills and competencies, while defining and enhancing the IESO’s culture and employee experience.

 

 

The Opportunity

An HR professional with experience in organizational design and client relations, you will report to the VP Human Resources and be empowered to oversee the execution and provide input on the strategic direction of the Division, the HR Business Unit, and the IESO’s overall strategic objectives. 

 

As the successful incumbent, you will be responsible for providing leadership, vision, and oversight to executing a lifecycle approach to people management focused HR programs and processes, and lead the following functions:

  • organizational design;
  • workforce plans;
  • labour and employee relations;
  • HR Business partnerships;
  • client relations;
  • health & safety; and 
  • change management.

 

This instrumental role will champion and drive strategic Human Resources initiatives consistently across all client groups in alignment with the business priorities and introduce new capability. As our organization grows, the work we do transforms, and new roles need to be identified and designed to support the IESO’s needs to be successful in the future. 

 

What you’ll do

  • Lead and provide guidance to senior business leaders  and HR partners on matters related to business structure  and alignment with the organization’s strategic direction, decision making model and business goals using organizational design strategies.
  • Lead a team of HR and Labour Relations professionals to deliver a consistent, positive and responsive client experience aligned with IESO’s values and change management principles
  • Lead diagnosis of business and organizational issues and the design and implementation of solutions that shape and drive effective business operations. 
  • Collaborate with HR Talent Management and Total Rewards leads to develop programs and initiatives to improve practices, processes and programs that enable attracting and retaining a high-performing, diverse and inclusive workforce.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing HR strategies in support of business objectives, and the development and execution of annual HR business plans.
  • Lead development of content and materials for Executive Leadership Team and Human Resources & Governance Committee of the Board of Directors.

 

What you need to succeed

Required:

  • University or post graduate degree pertinent to the job function – Organizational Design, Behavioural Sciences, Human Resources, or related field is required.
  • 10+ years of HR generalist related experience with a minimum of 5 years in a HR leadership role.
  • Knowledge of and experience in labour relations – including legislation, regulations, trends and collective bargaining.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of application of job evaluation and organizational design methodologies, principles, processes and tools, including stakeholder identification, communications and engagement planning, org design and capability development. 
  • Experience developing and implementing HR strategies and solutions aligned with business goals and objectives and large scale complex projects and change initiatives.
  • Strong people leadership skills, with experience in building team capability, and creating an engaged and inclusive work environment balanced with readiness to play a hands-on role.
  • Significant knowledge and experience with change management in regulated, complex, public sector, multi-stakeholder, unionized environments.
  • Strong influencer and communicator at all levels of the organization up through and including the Executive Team, CEO, and the Board of Directors.

Assets:

  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation considered an asset.
  • Certification or equivalent experience in change management considered an asset.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario. When working in the office, you will be located at our Toronto or Mississauga location.
