The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.

The opportunity 

 

The IESO Information Security team plays a vital role in ensuring the safe operations of our Ontario Electricity Grid. Critical infrastructure such as hydro, is being highly targeted by organized crime and nation state threat actors with the desire to cause disruption recognizing the role that we play in the support and growth of the economy as well as the downstream businesses and sectors that we directly empower day to day.

 

The Access Management team within Information Security is crucial in ensuring that all access to IESO assets are appropriate and maintained through established controls and procedures. The IESO is on a continuous journey in improving the Identify & Access Management governance, processes, and technologies to secure identities, access, and digital assets throughout the entirety of their lifecycles. The success of the Access Management function rests with its ability to remain integrated as a trusted partner for other IESO business units and the focus on providing exceptional customer service experience for IESO and external users.

 

What you'll do 

 

As part of a team,

  • Accept access (or revoke) request via email from IESO staff.
  • Create electronic tickets to manage and fulfill access granting and revoking to IESO systems. This includes access to Bulk Energy Systems (BES), non-BES systems, Active Directory, databases and email resources (shared mailbox, public folders and distribution list).  Also grant/revoke access on external facing systems for Market Participants. 
  • Create and manage network accounts and email accounts using tools such as Active Directory and Exchange Online. 
  • Assign/un-assign RSA tokens from user. Educate user on setup token pin and log into IESO network. 
  • Onboard IESO new hire by providing them network and system credentials, walking them through logging into various IESO systems.
  • Process change person access requests (grant/revoke)
  • Carry out the normal and rapid departure processes for users who leaves IESO. 
  • Improve/revise core access management process documents (grant/revoke process, add person process, change person process and remove person process)
  • Review and revise access related documents (e.g. Position Access Document, System Permission Group Matrix and Grant/Revoke Procedures) generated from other business units when required and file them to Citadel. 
  • Analyze and troubleshoot IT system issues for internal and external customers, coordinate with other IT departments if necessary.
  • Create and maintain computer scripts (PowerShell) to automate certain repetitive tasks.
  • Participate in IT projects collaborating with various business and IT groups. Project participation includes gathering requirements, performing tests & test cases both manual and automated on new or upgraded systems. Document test results, IT processes, and writing user guides and procedures.
  • Support development and tracking of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of our core processes (grant/revoke process, add person process, change person process and remove person process),
  • Identify and implement opportunities of improvement and efficiencies in access management processes.

 

What you need to succeed 

 

Education:

  • Requires a knowledge of general business and office practice in order to understand the requirements of electronic data processing functions;
  • Requires a knowledge of computer fundamentals and the principles of computer operation, data processing and computer communications to understand the application, use and operation of computer terminals, communications software and associated peripheral equipment;
  • Requires proficiency in the operation of the equipment as well as the ability to provide support to users, perform minor maintenance, and troubleshoot malfunctions;
  • Requires an extensive knowledge of DOS (Disk Operating System) to write and test specialized batch programs, to manipulate files and to set-up system conditions;
  • Requires a fundamental knowledge of database programming to modify inventory and event log as well as other LAN reporting systems;
  • Requires a good knowledge of English to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to train staff and prepare and update documentation; and
  • Requires an extensive knowledge of Novell network operating system and administrative utilities. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of Grade XII in a Secondary School plus additional specialized training courses, plus up to one year of further concentrated study, or the equivalent education.

 Experience:

  • Requires experience with office automation such as computer equipment and software, computer communications networks and associated software, and an understanding of the appropriate standards, practices and forms in use;
  • Requires experience in an information processing environment to understand the terminology and various applications;
  • Requires experience in writing programs for office automation systems and in providing information systems training programs;
  • Requires an understanding of the business function's goals and an ability to anticipate and respond to shifts in business direction;
  • Requires experience with supporting client server applications that provide project management, financial reporting, full-text search and retrieval systems, including network communications to access the host databases; and
  • A period of up to three years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
